365 Great Barbecue and Grilling Recipes
I love to barbecue in the summer. First, this book has a great format: it's wire-bound so it will lay flat on the counter while you're cooking! Combine that with great recipes and it's a winner!
Appetizers and Small Meals
I used this book extensively during my first "major" party when I had 50 plus people over for a New Year's Eve open house. Everything I made was delicious.
Brother Juniper's Bread Book Bread making is saving and soul enhancing. I still like to make bread by hand, even though I own a bread machine. And this book helped me make truly delicious French bread. Just wonderful! The reading is also good for your soul.
Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2004 (Cooking Light Annual Recipes, 2004). Cooking Light is a wonderful magazine full of heath-conscious tasty recipes and tips as well as other healthy living articles on exercise and things like that. If you're like me, those magazines get a bit tricky to organize though. I often found myself tearing recipes out of the magazine to save, only to find that I wanted the recipe on the back side as well! This book is the answer. It is organized by month, with categorized recipes on different foods, herbs, cooking methods, etc. Of course, there's a general recipe index in the back as well, making it easy to find that recipe you made but can't locate by month.
Fabulous Fondues Entertaining? Fondues provide a special meal atmosphere and are fun. (They also get my kids to eat lots of vegetables!) The recipes in here go beyond your basic cheese sauce and will spark some imagination. I'd never done a meat fondue before but it was fun and tasty!
Mennonite Country-Style Recipes A "big" book, with fun old-fashioned recipes and good tips.
Secrets of Fat Free Cooking The best tasting fat free recipes I've found, recommended by my mother and now used by my sister and I as well.
Stocking Up This is a classic book on preserving food. If you grow your own vegetables and want to learn how to can, freeze, or dry them, this is a great resource. Also has a nice section on recipes you can prepare ahead and freeze.
The Taste of Summer A nice collection of summer oriented menus: some barbecue, some not.
Woman's Day Cookbook This has a nice section on cooking ahead and a nice selection of menus in the back.
