Sesame Ginger Salmon

Thanks to How Sweet It Is for this awesome salmon recipe.  It’s become my daughter’s favorite and I, who don’t really like salmon, like it, too.

I see she’s got a cookbook out now (Seriously Delish) and I bet it is fabulous. In fact, I just went and put a hold on it at my library. If she can come up with something that makes me like salmon, I can’t wait to see what else she’s got.

Sesame Ginger Salmon

  • 1-2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 pound salmon filet
  • a few green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon grated ginger
  • Glaze
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Start by toasting the sesame seeds. Heat up a skillet over medium high heat and toast them, stirring frequently. I like my cast iron pan for this. Set them aside when toasted.

Mix up the marinade (remember to grate some extra ginger for the glaze) and marinate the salmon for 30 minutes or so.

Mix up the glaze and set aside.

I like to grill salmon so I made a little pan out of aluminum foil and put the marinated salmon skin side down on the pan over a hot grill until done. The timing totally depends on the thickness of your salmon.

Remove the salmon to a serving dish and pour the glaze on, then sprinkle with the sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Tip: Peel ginger with a teaspoon.
