How to Clean your Coffee Maker

Periodically, my coffee maker starts running very slowly.  We live in a hard water area. I’ve learned that if I run a few cups of distilled white vinegar through it, then follow by running 3-4 pots of plain water though it, it clears up and runs like new again.

Anyone have some other tips on coffee pots?

Haha! We just spent last week at a lake cottage in northern WI. their coffee maker was terribly clogged. I ran the same vinegar through the system several times before the rinses. It worked like a charm.

It’s cray that we’re so often on the same wave length.

Other coffee pot tips: Sprinkle a little baking soda into the pot and use it as a light scrub to remove coffee stains and residue from the glass pot. Rinse well and it’s ready to go.

We also have fairly hard water, so I use filtered water for coffee. I have one of those Pur units that connect easily to the faucet. Nice, sweet, clean tasting water gives the coffee a good start.
