Apparently it’s National Puppy Day so I thought I’d take a break from sharing recipes and introduce you to one of the animal residents here! I’m down to one cat, one dog and one chicken at this point.
Our border collie Kayden is always happy to hang out in the kitchen when I’m cooking, hoping I might drop something or share some leftovers. But he doesn’t beg for food and would much rather play than eat.
Kayden is 9 years old and still acts like a puppy. If you’ve ever been around border collies, you know that’s not unusual. He will play all day given the opportunity! He loves retrieving anything. If there’s not a tennis ball around, he’ll go look around the yard and bring you a lemon, orange or apple and drop it at your feet. If you ignore him, he’ll drop it on your foot! If you still ignore him, he’ll eventually eat the fruit. Even the oranges. But not the peels. (Or the lemons.)
He gets along well with the other animals, even sharing his food with the hen!
When I’m working upstairs and a cat sits by the back sliding door wanting to come inside, he’ll whine and let me know! I keep telling him the cat can wait a few minutes.
Of course, he loves going on walks, smelling everything and leaving what a friend calls p-mail for the other dogs. He especially loves it when we take him out on local trails and he can be off leash. But he never goes far and is always paying attention to where we are. Of course, he covers about five times the amount of ground we do because he trots ahead and comes back to us.
