The folks over at Clearly Fresh Bags sent me some of their bags to try. What intrigued me, of course, was the premise that I would throw away less produce because their bags help your fruits and veggies keep longer.
I’ve mainly used it for lettuce, both cut and a whole head. I see that they recommend my old trick of adding a paper towel to the bag for washed lettuce to help keep the moisture down. I was also interested in seeing that they say you can store stuff on the counter in a bag to lengthen the storage time as well, for those things you don’t like to refrigerate (apples and bananas being two of mine!).
The bags are re-usable and they are plenty roomy – 1 gallon size. The zip seal lets you open and close the bags easily enough. And they are clear, so you can easily see what’s inside each one. They are also recyclable once they’ve gotten past your use-point at home (although you have to remove the membrane that makes this whole thing work as that part itself is NOT recyclable.)
The bags are 3.99 for a pack of 10 on their web site. Given how large they are, I think 10 will handle a lot of produce! I may bring some to the farmer’s market next week and just pop things right inside the bags as I buy them.
Note: I was sent the sample for free but I was not paid for writing the post.
