Review: Hell Fire Pepper Jelly

I was sent a jar of this pepper jelly to try out and wow!  Spicy hot sweet all at once.  I think it’s got a bit more kick than your average pepper jelly. At first I thought “Whoa. Maybe too much.” Then about 3 seconds later I wanted more.

I’ve only done two things with it. The first is not novel at all but the first thing I think of with pepper jelly. Put some cream cheese on a cracker and top it with a dab of pepper jelly.  Delicious!

Then I made a turkey sandwich for lunch the next day and slathered a bit of pepper jelly on one piece of the bread. Definitely livened up that sandwich.

Other ideas I have that I have not yet tried include:

  • Mixing with some mustard and baking on chicken
  • Substituting for the grape jelly usually used with chili sauce for mini hot dogs at parties
  • Something with some pork loin, maybe a riff on the cranberry jelly crockpot roast
  • Using it in this “easier than stir fry” chicken
  • Using some in a salad dressing

You can learn more about the pepper jelly at their web site and buy it online as well.

I was given this jar of jelly to review but my opinions were not affected by that.

Every once in a while my brain goes blewy and the ideas flow like water. Wish I could summon that idea power when I really need it. *L*

Wow CJ! You totally put me to shame. I’m really liking your final shish kabob one….but many of the others sound great too.

Sweet-sour Asian chicken stir fry with bell peppers and pineapple?

Mix with Worchestrshire and minced garlic. Use as a brushing sauce for shish-kabobs.

    Ok. I’m done now. Really.

More ideas- Stir into soy sauce with some rice vinegar and fresh ginger for a dumpling or egg roll dipping sauce. It would make a nice baste or marinade too.

Put a dab into a savory cheddar thumbprint “cookie” or short bread.

Somehow I think sharp cheddar and the pepper jelly are a good match. With small toasts or crackers?

Stir in some lime zest, juice and cilantro and drizzle over grilled fish.

Sitr with chili sauce and make those crazy little appetizer meatballs. Spicy-sweet.

Stir a dab into a sweet-sour (vinegar-sugar) based coleslaw or bean salad.

Add a couple of spoonfuls to your BBQ sauce, baked beans or sloppy joes.

    I. must. stop…….they’re just falling out of my brain. I’m on a roll.

Oh, how about on a grilled cheese sandwich?

I really like the mustard (dijon)-jelly glaze idea. Maybe with a crushed pretzel crust?

Instead of the crockpot cranberry jelly roast, your idea made me think “home made cranberry relish” with a kick. Add some of the jelly to the cranberry-sugar mixture while it cooks down.

Cream cheese tortilla rollups would be good with some dabbed in. Almost like a chutney. On a peanut butter sandwich? Sweet, spicy…

Glaze a ham, pork roast (riff on your crockpot idea) or grilled salmon.

Serve melted jelly with sharp chedder cheese straws as a little dippping sauce.
Or as a dip for coconut shrimp. Mmmm…..

Cut the top rind off brie and spread with jelly. (a riff on the cream chees idea)
Or goat cheese? Tangy, salty, sweet, hot…. *idea* How about little goat cheese and hot pepper jelly bites wrapped in puff pastry?

Mix some with butter and spread on warm cornbread y’all.

My brain is whirring. Better stop now.
How about a sweet riff on Bufallo wings? Stir some melted jelly into the vinagery hot sauce before tossing with the wings.
